You have probably seen a few articles titled “10 trendiest neighborhoods in [name of a random city]” or similar.
What you found there are 2-3 sentences accompanied with a fancy picture of each neighborhood. Nobody bothers to go deeper.
By running
Lisbon Digital Nomads community over the years I've seen many people asking about the best places to live in Lisbon. Can we simply put neighborhoods to buckets and say that these ones are the best?
The first idea for this site I got in April 2020 when I made a survey, asking nomads and expats in Lisbon to
rate popular neighbourhoods.
Each person has different preferences about the best area to live as they are influenced by their own lifestyle and budget to rent (or buy).
Dog owners definitely don't want to live in the absolute
city centre where you don't have any parks.
Surfers without cars are looking for neighborhoods that are well connected by public transportation with the surf spots around Lisbon.
Other people are seeking for calm areas to avoid
tourist crowds.
And if you are a surfer with a dog who hates touristy areas, finding best right neighborhood in Lisbon gets a bit more complicated 🙂
Then there is some sort of patriotism - people who live in objectively not very nice neighborhood can be its very vocal promoters smashing everyone who has a different opinion.
By being passionate about this topic I started to gather more data and combine them in a spreadsheet. At some point, I realized that I might have enough of insights to visualize them on this site.
What you can see now is the version 1.0.
I have some fun ideas for many more data points and how to combine them together. I'm interested in trends and how the quality of neighbourhoods correlates with real estate prices.
