Arroios

The neighborhood of Arroios has become popular with tourists visiting Lisbon, with hotels and AirBnB’s springing up all over the neighborhood. Visitors are often drawn to the trendy Intendente area, which hosts a variety of Asian restaurants. This area of Arroios is sometimes likened to Hell’s Kitchen in NYC.

The neighborhood is relatively friendly and peaceful, especially in northern Arroios. The northern area hovers just on the edge of the city center. House prices in this neighborhood are continuously on the rise, as homebuyers search for cheaper options close to the center of Lisbon.

Reviews

I've lived in Arroios for 7 years now and I absolutely love it! The location is just ideal for me, not far from Baixa and not far from Saldanha, making the rest of the city very easy to get to. And the neighborhood is just so diverse as well. - Nite, April 2022

Close to the centre, good connections with public transportation, great nightlife options (casa, crew hassan, bus,...). At some points can be a bit dodgy though but I wasnt bothered by that.- Ines, February 2020

Flat terrain, lovely neighbors and shopkeepers, easy access to public transport, not a tourist area - Sarah, April 2020

Estefania: Not touristic. Walking distance (10min) to all metro lines. Multiple food courts, supermarkets and other amenities in the neighborhood. A few min walking away from parque Eduardo 7, which is an amazing and peaceful spot to chill. - Maxime, April 2020

Around Campo Mártires da Pátria, between avenida da liberdade and avenida almirante reis: It's near the trendy Intendente neighborhood (and the yummy Indian and asian restaurants), but also the city center and Chiado/principe real. It's quiet with a nice park. It's close to Marques de Pombal to take the highway toward caparica for surfing sessions! - Laurent, April 2020

Anjos area: I’m living in Arroios for a month now and absolutely loving it. Very close to parks, supermarkets, gyms, shops and bars/restaurants. Close to the metro and a 20min walk from the city center. I’m paying low rent and next to cheap supermarkets while bordering the more expensive neighborhood with nice parks and restaurants. But as it’s the only neighborhood here I’ve lived in I have nothing to compare it with 😆 - Cédric, December 2020

Hello, i live there it is nice but very noisy and very busy so visit the flat before renting it to make sure you are in a quiet street (above all of you work from home) - Florever, 2021

If you wanna a good coffee look for How about Coffee. Pizza place Margaritas in Mercado de arroios - Tiago, May 2021

I live in Arroios. Lots of vacant spaces for shop level businesses to start out. And yes, the 4,5€ haircut at your friendly Pakistani neighbor (not hipster)! - Andre, May 2021

Yessss ! Love to live there ! Ya are in the midst of it all: close walking distance to graça as well as campo martires da patria/torel, very multicultural, nice diversity in food hotspots, nowadays a lot of underground/creative/alternative hotspots opening [art galleries, art spaces...]. Favorite food spots: O gambuzino, O malta, largo café, there is a syrian bakery/pastelaria: yamina, mabiche pizza, margarita pizza, at the mercado de arroios Mezze, Nepal Curry house, LasVegan, Veganeats. - Vero, May 2021

Well I’m by Alameda and I love the park there, the fact that it’s so dog friendly and close to the center without being directly in the center. It has everything within walking distance. Restaurants, dentists, doctors etc. I rarely leave the area unless I’m visiting someone in a different neighborhood. It’s a clean area as well. I probably wouldn’t choose to live by Indentente , but Alameda is great and a little bit up north as well. - Briana, May 2021

I really like it! It's lively, cosmopolitan, great location in the city, good choice for supermarkets etc. As for the co-working space, you may want to check Heden Graça, I know it's not in Arroios, but very close to it. As for coffee shops, I like Brick, the Miradouro de Monte Agudo. - Sally, May 2021

I live in Arroios since 2019 and I love it. I feel this is a very multicultural neighborhood. A lot of students due to the Instituto Tecnico but also several nationality businesses around. You may find a restaurant from any country here, mostly around the Mercado de Arroios where you'll find nice coffee places too. It's a 30 min walk to downtown by Av. Almirante Reis and it's easy to get to other areas of the city by Metro (Alameda). - Cristian, May 2021

Been living in and around this area for about 3.5 years now and love it. It's multicultural, lots of different shops, restaurants and bars. Also many nice squares and some green areas in walking distance. And of course many associations with (in normal times) cool events and live music. Negative things: can be pretty busy and noisy with a lot of traffic. Most buildings are not in a great condition. Quite some homeless people on the street. And of course the metro station that has been closed for years now and it seems to take forever before it will be finished - Michel, May 2021
